Drive-Thru Breakfast

Join us on March 22, from 6:30 am to 9:00 am, at the Prestige Vernon Lodge and Conference Centre!

The 21st Annual North Okanagan Drive-Thru Breakfast helps bring Food Security to the region. No one should have to decide between food and rent, yet a recent study shows that one in six Canadians lives in a household facing a food shortage. With rising food, gas, and accommodations costs in conjunction with supply chain issues and the ongoing impacts of fires, floods, and a pandemic, the community turns to local organizations to meet their nutritional needs.

United Way BC is promoting the 21st Annual North Okanagan Drive-Thru Breakfast, presented by Total Restoration and hosted by the Prestige Vernon Lodge and Conference Centre, to raise funds to increase Food Security, among other initiatives, in our community.

On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 6:30 am to 9:00 am, Drive-Thru guests who donate will be greeted with hot coffee, treats, and giveaways on their way to pick up their breakfast bags. Some lucky donors may also win one of the many prizes hidden in the bags, including travel vouchers, resort stays, gift cards, and much more.

United for Food Security

Due to the pandemic and the global economic crisis, families are struggling to make ends meet. United Way Food Hubs, like Land to Table Network in the North Okanagan, support local communities facing food insecurities. Food Hubs not only increase accessibility of food, but also provide food literacy programming and wellness activities, and other services such as mental health, employment services, childcare, and more.

“Living in a rural, remote, and Indigenous community can mean getting healthy, nutritious food is a long drive away. This, combined with gaps in systems of care, are leaving many British Columbians falling through the cracks when it comes to getting fresh fruits and vegetables, and dietary and culturally appropriate foods important to the overall health of Indigenous communities,” says Kim Winchell, Senior Director, Strategy & Operations, Community Impact & Investment, United Way BC.

Your donation will help fund local United Way initiatives, like Food Hubs, that support residents from Revelstoke and Salmon Arm to Lumby and Vernon – building stronger, healthier communities.

Food Security at the tip of your fingers: Meet the FoodLink Mobile App by United Way BC!

FoodLink is an innovative mobile app that connects non-profit’s food needs and their clients to regional, small-scale food organizations and suppliers, while mobilizing volunteers to transport food between locations. Now, our local community partners can easily communicate their food needs to suppliers, who can then redirect donated products to where they’re needed the most.
