Illuminating Hope in Prince George: United Way BC’s Tree of Lights Comes to a Close
Annual fundraising tradition brings in $29,521 for vital programs!
United Way BC brought the 6th annual Tree of Lights campaign to Prince George this holiday season. Inside the Coast Prince George Hotel by APA, the Tree of Lights lit up in sections from bottom to top as funds were raised, like a thermometer of support, before becoming fully lit for the holidays.
From November 27 to January 3, United Way BC’s Tree of Lights collected donations to support people in need in Prince George, raising a total of $29,521! All funds raised are reinvested into our community to support seniors, children, youth, and families in Prince George, providing essential services such as nutritious meals, after-school care, and wildfire recovery.

Last year, United Way BC’s Tree of Lights raised nearly $30,000 which has already made a lasting impact for local children and youth. With the funds raised, we were able to bring United Way BC’s School’s Out program to Prince George!
School’s Out programs provide healthy, safe, and educational after-school programming for children. This program ensures kids receive the mentorship and support they need while they also develop critical life skills. Running from 3 pm to 6 pm, School’s Out gives children a safe place to go after school and gives the parents relief during hours that can be difficult to find care for their child as they finish their workday. This includes everything from healthy snacks to educational support.
United Way BC has a variety of programs, like School’s Out, that benefit people across the province. We are excited to bring more of these invaluable programs to Prince George with the funds raised from this year’s Tree of Lights. It’s more than just a tree, it’s hope united for people in need in Prince George: for children and youth to have the life they deserve, for seniors to get the support they need, and for all our neighbours to have a secure and reliable source for their next meal.
This year’s Tree of Lights was made possible through a long list of incredible sponsors, wonderful local businesses, and generous donors. Thank you to our Host Partner, the Coast Prince George Hotel by APA, our Feature Sponsor, VanKam Freightways, and our Community Sponsors, Wood Wheaton Honda Supercentre and PCL Construction for making this campaign possible. United Way BC is beyond appreciative for all of the support of this year’s Tree of Lights, and the support for bettering our community.
