Communities across BC Step UP in this year’s ClimbUP for United Way
This year’s ClimbUP for United Way went province-wide with participants stepping UP and out across BC in support of people most in need in their community.

This year’s ClimbUP for United Way went province-wide with participants stepping UP and out across BC in support of people most in need in their community.
More than $84,000 was raised in BC over the course of the 10-day ClimbUP Challenge which culminated this past Saturday in most regions. The Southern Interior, Trail, Southern Vancouver Island and Thompson Nicola Cariboo regions joined the Lower Mainland in hosting their own local version of ClimbUP for United Way.
Participants in every region hiked, walked or ran their way to a minimum of 42,000 steps over the 10 days, on their own or as part of a team, while fundraising to make our local communities stronger, one step at a time.
Funds raised from this year’s event will help build safer, healthier, more inclusive communities in each region by connecting people in need to the vital supports and services available to them in their own neighbourhood, now and into the future.

ClimbUP soars to new heights in 2021
More than 300 people took to local trails, routes and neighbourhoods in support of the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley’s edition of ClimbUP this year. In total, over $70,000 was raised in the region, surpassing last year’s total.
This year’s event featured strong showings by some of last year’s top corporate fundraising teams including WSP, BC Hydro and last year’s ClimbUP Fundraising Champions IT/IQ Tech. Giving them a run for their money this year were the teams from RBC, TD and BMO to name just a few. But in the end, it was Team RBC that took top honours as Team ClimbUP Fundraising Champion in this year’s leaderboard raising almost $9,600 for local community.
Top individual honours, for the 2nd year in a row, went to Feras Elkhalil of IT/IQ Tech Recruiters who came UP on top with almost $3,500 raised to claim title as the Individual ClimbUP Fundraising Champion!
Stepping their way to the top as our ClimbUP Individual Step Champion was Darcy Hinds of Western Stevedoring who logged over 333,000 steps through the MoveSpring app over the 10-day challenge. There were a number of other individuals who reached over the 200,000 step mark this year – way to go! You are all ClimbUP champions in our book.
A challenge tailor-made for the North Shore
This year’s event also challenged North Shore-based organizations to step UP for their community in their very own sub-challenge. It was a tight race to the finish between North Shore Challenge sponsor Neptune Terminals and rival Western Stevedoring. But in the end, it was Western Stevedoring that rose to the top to secure both the North Shore Team Step Champion and North Shore Fundraising Team Champion titles.
