An Epic Wall
It took over a year, but the wall is finally up at Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Center (KSACC) and now a new office and safe space for clients is finally open!

This great project wouldn’t have happened without the incredible Chris O’Dwyer, Greg Buffel and their team from Service Master who worked closely with talented electrician Stu Therrien and Home Hardware.
KSACC is a non-profit organization that supports women, men and children ages 3 and up by providing services that help sexual violence survivors overcome their trauma, better understand the cycle of violence, build greater capacity for individual and family safety, and attain the skills necessary to mitigate re-victimization. The employees at KSACC work diligently to create a welcoming, non-judgmental environment in which all individuals feel safe to walk through the doors to heal and move beyond the story of violence. Those who worked on this Day of Caring share that same philosophy, inspiring them to spend many hours ensuring the wall was built so that clients have the privacy and respect they deserve.
With nearly 700 volunteers putting in over 3450 volunteer hours in less than three years, a lot of work, learning, and connecting is getting done at United Way Days of Caring®.
The idea is simple: An organization has a project that has been sitting on the back-burner like a new fence or a space painted, and a local business has a team of eager volunteers ready to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about building a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people with different skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. It’s about team-building and having the chance to learn about the programs available in our community that United Way supports.
