All North Rocks!

On a cool and wet August afternoon a team of 9 volunteers from All North arrived at the offices of Interior Community Services with shovels in hand ready to work. The task… shoveling rocks, not something most would do with a smile on their faces but this group of dedicated folks seemed to truly enjoy the hard work and why not when it’s for such a noble cause?!

Interior Community Services is one of the largest not for profit organizations here in Kamloops and works with close to 1000 folks a day – whether that’s through their residential services, family supports, good food programs, individual life skills development, youth outreach or the countless other programs they run. This Day of Caring® was an opportunity for our community to give back as the Interior Community Services offices are located on Tranquille Rd. and the garden space between the office and the road needed a face lift. This clean up and change to the landscape was not only for the optics but for the safety of those working at Interior Community Services who were tasked with garbage and needle pick up every morning. Enter All North, not only did these incredibly hardworking people spread the rocks they also ordered and purchased them for the agency and when we ran out they went and picked up more to ensure the job was done.

With nearly 700 volunteers putting in over 3450 volunteer hours in less than three years, a lot of work, learning, and connecting is getting done at United Way Days of Caring®.

The idea is simple. An organization has a project that has been sitting on the backburner like a new fence or a space painted, and a local business has a team of eager volunteers ready to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about building a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people with different skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. It’s about team-building and having the chance to learn about the programs available in our community that United Way supports.
