Work Hard to Play Hard!

Together with Marc Major from Major Resolution Renovations, the team at Kelson Group embarked on a two-day Day of Caring project at a local women’s shelter where they took down an old wooden playground and in its place, built an updated, brand new one!
Over the two days, 16 members from Kelson Group volunteered their time with the Major Resolution Renovations team and brought engineering skills, expertise, and the tools necessary to make sure the job was done right.
“This new playground was delivered in pieces and was harder than any Ikea build I have personally struggled through,” joked Kristi Rintoul, Senior Manager of Community Impact at Thompson Nicola Cariboo United Way. “The team figured it all out and did it with smiles and laughter both days. It was a pleasure to work with them and we are so thankful for their support!”
There are currently 20 people living at the shelter and of those 20, 11 are children.
“This build of a playground was more than just one Day of Caring,” said Rintoul. “It truly has provided endless days of joy for some very needy and deserving kiddos. We’re so thankful to have community partners like Major Resolution Renovations and Kelson Group help in such big ways!”
The idea is simple. An organization has a project that has been sitting on the backburner like a new fence or a space painted, and a local business has a team of eager volunteers ready to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about building a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people with different skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. It’s about team-building and having the chance to learn about the programs available in our community that United Way supports.
