Most recently, 5 local Steel Worker volunteers met us to spread crush, donated and dropped off by Hardy Equipment Services, and then proceeded to build 2 garden sheds!
This Day of Caring took place at Canadian Mental Health Association’s Meadow Creek Vista in Logan Lake. An affordable housing complex with rent geared to accommodate the income level of the folks who live there. Residents of Meadow Creek Vista are either 55 years of age or older or are people with disabilities, so having access to the gardens is not only healthy but also therapeutic for those who live there. The two sheds that were the product of this Day of Caring are a wonderful addition to the gardens and the residents’ quality of life and we are always so grateful for our amazing volunteers from USW Local 7619 for making it all possible.
With over 700 volunteers putting in over 3450 volunteer hours in less than three years, a lot of work, learning, and connecting is getting done at United Way Days of Caring®.
The idea is simple. An organization has a project that has been sitting on the backburner like a new fence or a space painted, and a local business has a team of eager volunteers ready to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about building a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people with different skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. It’s about team-building and having the chance to learn about the programs available in our community that United Way supports.
